The top legal official in Texas Ken Paxton is suing the manufacturers of Tylenol, claiming the corporations hid safety concerns that the pain reliever presented to pediatric brain development.

The lawsuit comes thirty days after Former President Trump advocated an unproven link between using acetaminophen - alternatively called acetaminophen - while pregnant and autism in children.

The attorney general is filing suit against the pharmaceutical giant, which formerly manufactured the drug, the sole analgesic suggested for women during pregnancy, and the current manufacturer, which presently makes it.

In a declaration, he said they "misled consumers by making money from pain and pushing pills ignoring the dangers."

The manufacturer says there is lacking scientific proof tying Tylenol to autism.

"These manufacturers lied for decades, intentionally threatening countless individuals to line their pockets," Paxton, a Republican, said.

Kenvue commented that it was "very worried by the perpetuation of misinformation on the safety of acetaminophen and the likely effects that could have on the welfare of American women and children."

On its online platform, the company also said it had "consistently assessed the relevant science and there is lacking reliable evidence that indicates a verified association between taking paracetamol and autism."

Organizations speaking for medical professionals and healthcare providers share this view.

The leading OB-GYN organization has said acetaminophen - the main ingredient in Tylenol - is among limited choices for women during pregnancy to address pain and elevated temperature, which can pose major wellness concerns if not addressed.

"In multiple decades of studies on the use of paracetamol in pregnancy, not a single reputable study has conclusively proven that the use of paracetamol in any stage of gestation results in neurological conditions in young ones," the group said.

The lawsuit references recent announcements from the former administration in claiming the medication is potentially dangerous.

In recent weeks, the former president generated worry from medical authorities when he told expectant mothers to "resist strongly" not to use acetaminophen when ill.

Federal regulators then released a statement that medical professionals should think about restricting the consumption of acetaminophen, while also stating that "a causal relationship" between the drug and autism spectrum disorder in minors has not been established.

The Health Department head Kennedy, who supervises the FDA, had vowed in April to initiate "a massive testing and research effort" that would establish the source of autism in a short period.

But experts advised that discovering a sole reason of autism spectrum disorder - thought by researchers to be the result of a intricate combination of genetic and external influences - would not be simple.

Autism is a form of lifelong neurodivergence and disability that affects how individuals experience and engage with the environment, and is recognized using physician assessments.

In his legal document, Paxton - who supports Trump who is campaigning for the Senate - alleges the manufacturer and J&J "willfully ignored and sought to suppress the research" around paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder.

The case attempts to require the companies "eliminate any marketing or advertising" that states Tylenol is secure for women during pregnancy.

This legal action parallels the grievances of a collection of guardians of young ones with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD who filed suit against the manufacturers of Tylenol in 2022.

The court rejected the case, stating research from the parents' expert witnesses was lacking definitive proof.
