The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several notable changes:

  • Each team includes just 8 real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players looking for different methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and someone else lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

Should the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
