Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell like this with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
