All aircraft movements were halted due to an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in jets at the stand during the disruption.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".

Nonetheless, ongoing issues are likely to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the latest information on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.

Passengers are still being urged to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport as backlogs are worked through.
